Ambisystem® can stabilise various
typologies of waste.
Experiments carried out on various plant have demonstrated the
achievement of the prefixed parameters.
The main objectives of the experiments were as follows:
-
verify that the stabilisation process
that takes place in the ambiSystem is homogeneous
throughout the length of the ambiTunnel;
-
verify that the emissions outside the
ambiSystem had characteristics comparable with those of a
composting plant in a good state of efficiency.
The experimentation was carried out using
various heaps on each of which we worked under different
conditions. The duration of the experiments was twenty-eight
days during which olfactometric, chemical and respirometric
surveys were effected.
For each heap three samples of odorigenous gases were
collected: one sample inside the heap, under the tarp; two
other samples at two different points along the ambiTunnel.
The samples were analysed by dynamic olfactometry.
The chemical compounds sought in the emissions through the
tarp are ammoniac (NH3) and hydrogenous sulphur H2S),
compounds for which in every composting plant a limit of 5
mg/Nm3 is set. For each heap a sampling point was
identified.
The progress of the stability of the material during the
process was further verified, analysing the oxygen consumption
by means of the “dynamic respiration index” method.
Experiment results
Olfactometric surveys, carried out in accordance with European
Standards EN 13725: 2003 evidenced that the concentration of
odour emitted by the heaps treated with ambiSystem decreases
day by day under the various conditions to which ambiSystem is
subjected. This decreasing progress indicates that the biomass
proceeds gradually towards an increasingly greater
stabilisation of the waste.
The emissions above a heap covered with an adsorbEco tarp, in
the phase of maximum emission, registered < 300 ouE/m3.
Dynamic Respiration Index Method Encl. D DGRV 568/05
demonstrated a perfect stabilisation of the material such as
to satisfy the parameters of admissibility in the dump in
accordance with Legislative Decree 36/2003. The parameters
noted after the treatment were: mg O2 / Kg-1 SV h-1
≤ 1000.
Control of ammoniac NH3, checked by method UNICHEM
632-84, gave the following result: < 1.0 mg / Nm3
(far less than the maximum limit of < 5.0 mg / Nm3
required for composting plant).
Control of hydrogenous sulphur H2S, checked by method UNICHEM
634-84, gave the following result: < 0.5 mg / Nm3
(far less than the maximum limit of < 5.0 mg / Nm3
required for composting plant).
